Method

  1. Heat the oven to 150°C / 130°C fan.
  2. Fry the bacon and onion in a casserole for 8 minutes.
  3. Stir in the treacle, sugar, mustard, purée and water. Add the beans.
  4. Cover and bake for 3 hours, stirring occasionally, until thick. Season.
Cook's noteDried beans soaked overnight give the best texture; add 1 hour to the cooking time.
