Coffee cake is meant to be eaten with coffee rather than flavoured with it. It's perfect for breakfast or brunch.
The sour cream makes it tender and moist.

Method
- Heat the oven to 180°C / 160°C fan. Line a 23cm square tin.
- Beat the butter and sugar, then add the eggs, sour cream and vanilla. Fold in the flour and baking powder.
- Rub the topping flour and cold butter together, then stir in the brown sugar and cinnamon.
- Spread half the batter in the tin, scatter with half the topping, then add the rest of the batter and topping.
- Bake for 40–45 minutes until a skewer comes out clean.
